A major fire broke out in North Canton, Ohio, on Monday, sending thick black smoke high into the sky and triggering a large-scale emergency response from multiple fire departments in the region.
The blaze occurred at a scrapyard facility on Whipple Avenue identified as Fosnaught’s Auto Parts. Early reports from the scene suggested that an explosion may have taken place before the fire spread rapidly through the site. Witnesses described seeing a large plume of smoke visible from several miles away, with some reporting it could be seen from nearby highways.
Fire crews from Jackson Township, North Canton, and surrounding jurisdictions responded quickly to the incident. Authorities also closed off sections of Whipple Avenue to allow emergency teams to work safely and contain the fire.
Officials said the incident began in the late afternoon after calls reported an explosion followed by fast-moving flames. The scrapyard setting added complexity to firefighting efforts due to the presence of flammable materials and metal debris on site.
At this stage, there has been no official confirmation regarding the cause of the fire or whether anyone was injured. Emergency responders remained at the scene for several hours as they worked to bring the blaze under control and assess potential hazards.
Images and videos shared by local residents showed intense flames and dense smoke rising from the facility, prompting concern across the community. Some residents described it as one of the most significant fires the area has seen in recent years.
