BMW F 450 GS Launched In India At Rs 4.70 Lakh – Worth It?

The BMW Motorrad India has launched the BMW F 450 GS at Rs 4.70 lakh (ex-showroom), introducing a twin-cylinder adventure motorcycle in a segment largely dominated by single-cylinder options. For Indian buyers, this directly expands choice in the sub-500cc ADV space with a focus on smoother highway performance and touring ability. The motorcycle replaces the G 310 GS as the brand’s most accessible GS model and is locally produced, which helps keep pricing competitive while offering higher-spec hardware and features than most rivals in this price band.

Engine, Platform And Hardware Explained

The BMW F 450 GS is built around a new 420cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine producing 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. What stands out is the twin-cylinder layout, which is expected to deliver smoother power delivery and reduced vibrations compared to single-cylinder rivals especially at sustained highway speeds.

It uses a steel trellis frame, USD front forks and a rear monoshock with 180 mm suspension travel at both ends. The bike runs on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup, balancing road stability with light off-road capability. Braking hardware includes a 310 mm front disc with a four-piston caliper and a 240 mm rear disc supported by lean-sensitive ABS Pro.

Features, Variants And Real-World Buyer Impact

BMW offers the F 450 GS in three variants: Base (Rs 4.70 lakh), Exclusive (Rs 4.90 lakh), and GS Trophy (Rs 5.30 lakh). Prices are ex-showroom. All variants share the same engine but differ in equipment levels. The bike gets a 6.5-inch TFT display with connectivity, LED lighting, traction control and multiple riding modes including Rain, Road, and Enduro. Higher variants add features like Shift Assistant Pro (quickshifter), engine guards, and off-road-focused components, while the top-spec GS Trophy also includes wire-spoke wheels and Easy Ride Clutch.
