LK Advani Health: BJP leader LK Advani.

Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani was admitted to Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Friday evening with a chest infection. The 98-year-old leader is under observation in the hospital’s pulmonary department, with a team of doctors monitoring his condition.

Hospital officials said LK Advani was brought to the hospital at around 7.30 pm. Medical tests are underway. LK Advani was last admitted to Apollo Hospital in May this year due to age-related health complications. He was discharged after a few days.

One of the key architects of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s rise in Indian politics, LK Advani served as the party president for three terms- from 1986 to 1990, 1993 to 1998 and 2004 to 2005. On September 25, 1990, Advani launched the Ram Rath Yatra from Somnath in Gujarat, a political campaign that brought the Ram Temple movement to the centre of national politics. The yatra was halted on October 23 that year when he was arrested in Samastipur, Bihar.

During the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani served as Union Home Minister from 1998 to 2004 and Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004. The Kargil conflict in 1999 and the terror attack on Parliament in December 2001 took place during his tenure as Home Minister.
