In the first major administrative shake-up since Samrat Chaudhary took over as Bihar Chief Minister, the state government has transferred 50 senior officers across the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), signalling a significant restructuring of the bureaucracy and law enforcement apparatus.

The Home Department transferred 29 IPS officers, including SPs posted in more than a dozen districts. The reshuffle affected key districts such as Banka, Khagaria, Kaimur, Sheikhpura, West Champaran (Bettiah), Aurangabad, Saharsa, Bagaha, Sheohar, Katihar, Jehanabad, Purnea and Vaishali.

Among the notable IPS postings, Patna City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh was appointed SP of Khagaria, while Patna City SP (East) Parichay Kumar was made SP of Katihar. Gaya City SP Kota Kiran Kumar was posted as SP of Jehanabad, and Bhagalpur City SP Shailendra Singh was transferred as SP of Sheohar. Sanket Kumar and Ms Shailja were appointed Patna City SP (West) and SP (East), respectively.

Soon after the IPS transfers, the government also ordered the transfer of 21 IAS officers, including several district magistrates and senior departmental officials.

One of the most significant changes was the appointment of Kundan Kumar as the new District Magistrate of Patna, replacing Tyagarajan S.M. Tyagarajan has been appointed chairman of the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) and will continue to hold additional charge as Special Secretary in the Health Department.

Senior IAS officer Anand Kishor was relieved of his long-held additional responsibility as chairman of the Bihar School Examination Board. He will now serve exclusively as Additional Chief Secretary of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department.

In another key change, Principal Secretary Robert L. Chongthu was moved from the Minority Welfare Department to the Parliamentary Affairs Department. Mohammad Sohail has been reposted as Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department and will also continue to hold additional charge as Secretary of the General Administration Department.
