BCCI Breaks Silence on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Debut, Sends Strong Message to Critics – EXCLUSIVE

Rising sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been rewriting history books, dominating world-class bowlers, and has even become the biggest talking point among the cricket fraternity, all at just the age of 15. He shattered legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s record by becoming the youngest Indian to get an International call-up for the Ireland and England tour. However, the batting powerhouse has only been warming the bench so far. Calls for the prodigy’s debut are only growing louder with every match he spends on the sidelines, but the BCCI has now broken its silence.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla defended the team management’s choice in an exclusive interview with Times Now, stating that the young player’s selection itself shows confidence in his ability. Shukla also urged everyone to have faith in the coaches and selectors, while criticising the increasing amount of online abuse and political commentary thrown at the team management. He stressed that Sooryavanshi’s chance will come and stated that the management should be the only ones to decide when he plays.

“We are also of the view that he is a very talented player, and he showcased that during the IPL. I have seen several comments against the team management and the coaches, but I want to make it very clear that the coach and captain will take the final decision. They are looking at the situation, and whenever the right opportunity arises, they will definitely give him his chance,” Shukla told Times Now.

“So, such decisions should be left to the wisdom of the team management. I don’t know why such unnecessary comments are being made about it,” he added.

Wait For Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Debut Continues

Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Abhishek Sharma were among the key players in India’s victory at the 2026 T20 World Cup. Even if one or two of them fail to perform in a few matches, the management’s faith in them and the long-term vision remain steadfast. Indeed, Sooryavanshi’s entry has upended not only the Indian cricket system but the global one as well. But the Gautam Gambhir-led team management does not want to upset the system they have constructed, the structure they have formed, or the hierarchy they have established in the team.

Under Gambhir, this system helped India win the ICC Champions Trophy, the Asia Cup, and the T20 World Cup. When questioned about Sooryavanshi’s possible debut in England, even his assistant, Ryan ten Doeschate, stressed on the process.

“He (Sooryavanshi) is absolutely ready to play international cricket, there is no doubt about that, but also Sanju Samson is a guy who went a long way to win us the World Cup three months ago,” ten Doeschate said, while also admitting that the boy from Bihar is ready to perform at the top level of Indian cricket.

Ten Doeschate’s thoughts were mirrored in India’s newly-appointed T20I captain Shreyas Iyer’s remarks, who stated that the first-choice players can not be asked to step away for Sooryavanshi.
