Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Salman Agha Among Players Fined PKR 5 Million Each For T20 World Cup Disappointment

Pakistan cricketers have reportedly been punished by their cricket board in the wake of their disappointing performance at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. The Salman Ali Agha-led outfit exited in the Super 8 round of the tournament, failing to qualify for the semi-finals.

According to The Express Tribune, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has fined each player Rs 5 million Pakistani Rupees (PKR). The decision to impose the financial penalty is said to have been taken following their first-round defeat to India in Sri Lanka last month.

The publication further reported that PCB officials felt that since players are rewarded for good performances, they should also face penalties for poor results.

PCB Central Contracts

According to reports, centrally contracted Pakistani cricketers receive annual remuneration based on the category they are placed in, divided into four tiers.

A player in Category A earns a monthly salary of 4.5 million PKR, in addition to 2.07 million PKR as a share of ICC revenue.

Category B players earn 3 million PKR per month and receive 1.5525 million PKR as their ICC share, while Category C players receive 1 million PKR per month and 1.035 million PKR as their ICC share.

Category D players earn 750,000 PKR per month and receive 517,500 PKR as their ICC share.

It’s not just the Pakistani cricketers who have severely criticised after yet another flop show. Their head coach Mike Hesson is also in the firing line.

According to reports, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi aiming to overhaul Pakistan’s T20 setup which could see Salman Agha losing captaincy.
