Another Trump ‘TACO’ Moment? US Seeks Iran Ceasefire After 13 Nights Of Strikes

  • July 26, 2026

US-Iran War News: After carrying out strikes on Iran for 13 consecutive nights, the United States is now reportedly seeking a temporary ceasefire and a return to negotiations with Tehran under the previously suspended Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The reported diplomatic outreach comes weeks after US President Donald Trump declared that the ceasefire with Iran was over, accusing Tehran of violating its terms and conditions.

According to sources, Washington has proposed a new temporary ceasefire and is seeking to revive the collapsed MOU. The discussions are also expected to cover Yemen, with Trump reportedly seeking to include the Houthis in the proposed arrangement.

However, Iran is considered highly unlikely to accept the US proposal. Reports said Tehran has rejected all negotiations throughout this week and has made it clear that it will not begin talks under any circumstances. At the same time, Trump has warned that the United States is preparing a “massive attack” on Iran that would be “bigger than any attack ever carried out before”.

US turns to mediation after days of escalation
According to reports, Washington has asked Qatar and Pakistan to mediate an immediate ceasefire and help restart negotiations with Tehran under the Memorandum of Understanding.

The reported diplomatic move follows several days of military escalation after Trump issued direct threats against Tehran and launched strikes across central and southern Iran.

Iran responded by launching heavy ballistic missiles and large drone attacks targeting key infrastructure across Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan. Tehran also warned London that British bases would come under direct attack if US forces continued using them.

Trade routes and regional tensions add pressure
Reports said Iranian forces have established complete operational control over the Strait of Hormuz, identifying American-linked vessels and bringing maritime traffic through the waterway to a standstill.

At Bab al-Mandab, AnsarAllah reportedly shifted its focus back towards the mainland following intense pressure and launched fresh offensive operations against Saudi Arabia.

With trade routes disrupted, allies under threat and the conflict spreading across the region, Washington reportedly approached Doha and Islamabad to open direct communication with Iran.

Tehran sets condition for talks
According to the reports, Qatari envoys had submitted a draft proposal to both sides aimed at restarting negotiations shortly before strikes targeted southern Iran two days ago.

While Tehran initially did not respond positively to the proposal as it sought greater leverage on the battlefield, it has now laid down a clear condition.
