The Lok Sabha will hold an eight-hour debate on the anti-paper leak Bill on Tuesday after all parties agreed to end the parliamentary deadlock.
The Lok Sabha is set to take up the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 for discussion on Tuesday after leaders of various political parties agreed to end the deadlock that had disrupted proceedings during the Monsoon Session.
According to sources quoted by ANI, the breakthrough came after Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held discussions with floor leaders from both the ruling alliance and the Opposition. Following the meeting, all sides agreed to hold a detailed debate on the proposed legislation.
The bill will be discussed for eight hours in the lower house.
Rahul Gandhi Likely To Lead Congress’ Stand
The Congress has decided to participate in the discussion, with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi expected to speak on the Bill. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may also take part in the debate.
Sources said the Opposition’s final strategy will be decided during a meeting of Opposition floor leaders scheduled to be held in Parliament on Tuesday morning.
House Witnessed Disruptions Today
The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Monday after Opposition MPs disrupted proceedings during a proposed discussion on the Bill. Following the repeated interruptions, the House was adjourned till 11 am on Tuesday.
The consensus reached between the government and the Opposition has now paved the way for a full-fledged discussion on the legislation.
What Does The Anti-Paper Leak Bill Propose?
The amendment Bill was introduced by Union Minister Jitendra Singh in the wake of nationwide protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. It seeks to strengthen the existing law by introducing tougher punishments to curb paper leaks, organised cheating rackets and examination mafias.
