7-Year-Old Ranchi Boy Makes History: Ishank Singh Completes 29 Km Sri Lanka-To-India Swim In 10 Hours

  • May 2, 2026

Seven-year-old Ishank swam 29 kilometres across the Palk Strait from Sri Lanka to India after training daily for hours at Ranchi’s Dhurwa Dam.

News18

Seven-year-old Ishank Singh from Ranchi has made history after swimming across the Palk Strait between Sri Lanka and India. At an age when most children are busy with school and playtime, he completed a nearly 29-kilometre sea swim and earned a world record for the achievement.

The young swimmer crossed the stretch from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi in India in 9 hours and 50 minutes. His feat has brought attention from people across the country, with many praising his hard work and determination at such a young age.

Young Swimmer Creates Record

Ishank, who lives in Dhurwa in Ranchi, completed the challenging swim on April 30, 2026. According to reports, he has now become the youngest swimmer in the world to cross the Palk Strait route.

The crossing is considered difficult because of changing sea conditions and strong currents. Despite the challenge, Ishank successfully completed the swim in under 10 hours. For this achievement, he received the “Youngest and Fastest Palk Strait Swimmer” certificate from the Universal Records Forum.

Daily Practice Helped Him Prepare

The seven-year-old reportedly trained for several hours every day before attempting the swim. He practised at Dhurwa Dam in Ranchi and followed a strict training schedule.

His coaches, Aman Kumar Jaiswal and Bajrang Kumar, guided him through the preparation. Reports said Ishank spent around four to five hours daily in practice to build the stamina needed for the long-distance swim.

People from Jharkhand have celebrated the achievement, calling it a proud moment for the state and the country.

As per reports, the school principal said Ishank showed courage, discipline and focus by taking on such a difficult challenge at a very young age. He added that the young swimmer’s success proves that dedication and proper guidance can help achieve big goals.

The principal also said Ishank’s achievement would inspire many other students to work hard toward their dreams.

Social Media Users React

Many people reacted to the news online and praised the child swimmer for his effort and determination. A user wrote, “Indian Navy potential kid, hope he keeps up with the sport.”

Another said, “A matter of pride for Jharkhand and India! Heartiest congratulations to Ishaan, his parents, and his coach. You are a hero!”
