The Excise Department in Bihar’s Gopalganj district seized 574 litres of Indian-made and foreign liquor from a boat in the Gandak River and arrested one smuggler during a raid, officials said.
The operation was carried out after the department received a tip-off about liquor smuggling. The team seized the liquor consignment and confiscated a boat and a four-wheeler used in the smuggling operation.
The raid was part of the Excise Department’s ongoing campaign against the manufacture, sale and smuggling of illicit liquor in Gopalganj.
Despite Bihar’s total prohibition on liquor, smugglers continue to devise ways to transport alcohol. Excise Department conducted the operation and recovered a large quantity of Indian-made and foreign liquor.

Excise Superintendent Amritesh Kumar said the department seized 574 litres of domestic and foreign liquor, along with the boat and vehicle allegedly being used to transport it.
