Scholars noted that Dandakrama, revered as the crown of Vedic recitation for its complex svara-patterns and phonetic precision, has been performed only three times in recorded history, with Devavrat’s recitation being flawless and completed in the shortest span.
Varanasi witnessed an extraordinary spiritual moment as 19-year-old Vedamurti Devavrat Mahesh Rekhe from Maharashtra was felicitated for completing the Dandakrama Parayanam, a highly complex recitation of nearly 2,000 mantras from the Shukla Yajurveda (Madhyandina branch). The feat, regarded as one of the most intricate in the Vedic tradition, was accomplished in 50 uninterrupted days, marking the first such classically pure performance after almost 200 years.
In honour of his achievement, Devavrat was presented with a golden bracelet worth Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1,11,116. The recognition came with the blessings of the Jagadguru Shankaracharyas of Dakshinamnaya Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham.
A vibrant procession from Rathayatra Crossing to Mahmoorganj, accompanied the celebration. Over 500 Vedic students, traditional musicians, and the resonant sound of shankhadwani turned the city into a grand Vedic festival. Devotees lined the streets, showering flowers as the procession passed.
During the ceremony, a special message of blessings from Sringeri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahasannidhanam was delivered by Asthana Vidwan Dr. Tangirala Shivakumar Sharma.
