From August 22, 2025, electric cars in Mumbai will enjoy toll-free passage on Atal Setu, as Maharashtra expands EV incentives under its 2025 policy.
The Atal Setu in Mumbai is an important link for the city. However, using it costs more than a dime, and users have often raised their concerns across social media platforms about the toll rates levied. Under the new EV Policy 2025, the Maharashtra government has now announced a major relief. The electric vehicles will be exempted from toll on the Atal Setu.
Starting August 22, 2025, all electric four-wheelers will be exempted from paying toll-free on this bridge. The exemption, confirmed through a government notification by the Urban Development Department (No. MRD-3325/C.R.123/UD-7), covers electric four-wheelers (category M1) and electric buses (categories M3 and M4), whether operated by State Transport Undertakings (STUs) or non-STU operators. However, electric goods carriers are not included in this scheme.
The toll waiver applies specifically at collection centres in Shivaji Nagar and Gavan along the Atal Setu corridor. This development expands upon an earlier resolution from January 31, 2025, which had set toll charges for all vehicles using the bridge until December 31, 2025. Now, EVs get a clear exemption, aligning with Maharashtra’s push to encourage cleaner mobility.
