The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), on Friday, once again reiterated that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India, as it responded on Lord Mayor of UK’s Birmingham Zaker Choudhry’s ‘Kashmir is Pakistan’ remark.
Addressing the weekly presser, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We know where India stands on Kashmir. The whole of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India. As far as our policy towards Pakistan is concerned, we know very well where we stand.”
What Did Zaker Choudhry Say?
In a controversial remark, Mayor of Birmingham – Britain’s Second largest city – Zakir Choudhry described Kashmir as part of Pakistan at an event last month.
He had said, “Our ancestors fought for our country. Kashmir is ours, Pakistan is ours, and the army is ours. I appeal to the Pakistani government and the Kashmiri side to sit down at the negotiating table and talk. Only through dialogue can problems be resolved.”
