At least 26 people were killed when terrorists opened fire on tourists in the popular Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam in one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Kashmir in recent years.
“I condemn this attack in the strongest terms. A poor local labourer has died in this cowardly attack. He was brave. He died trying to save the tourists. I have also heard that he even tried to snatch the gun from one of the terrorists. That was when he was made a target and shot,” Abdullah said while speaking to the media after Hussain’s funeral at Hapatnar in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The chief minister conveyed condolences to Hussain’s family and assured them full support of the government.
Notably, Syed Adil Hussain was the only local and only Muslim who died in the dastardly attack.
On Tuesday, at least 5–6 terrorists, clad in camouflage outfits and kurta-pyjamas, came to the Baisaran meadow from the dense pine forest surrounding the valley and opened fire with AK-47s.
