India batter and World Cup winner, Smriti Mandhana chose a fun and refreshing way to share a special moment from her personal life, confirming her engagement to music composer Palash Muchhal through a playful Instagram reel. Surrounded by her teammates and set to a classic Bollywood track, the India batter turned a simple dance video into a memorable announcement.
Joined by Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil Radha Yadav, and even Arundhati Reddy, Mandhana featured in a neatly choreographed routine to “Samjho Ho Hi Gaya” from the 2006 film Lage Raho Munna Bhai. The video has since gone viral on social media. However, in the closing frames, Mandhana subtly lifted her hand towards the camera, flashing her engagement ring and confirming the long-rumoured news.
Muchhal had earlier offered a hint about their relationship during an event at the State Press Club in Indore in October. While refraining from making a direct confirmation, he had quipped that Mandhana would soon become the “daughter-in-law of Indore” — a remark that sparked speculation but stopped short of revealing concrete plans.
Away from the joyous personal milestone, Mandhana’s on-field numbers continue to tell an equally impressive story. Fresh from India’s historic ICC Women’s ODI World Cup victory, the elegant left-hander delivered a remarkable campaign with the bat. She finished with 434 runs in nine innings at an average of 54.22, including a match-winning century against New Zealand.
In the process, Mandhana became the highest run-scorer by an Indian in a single edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup, surpassing the previous record of 409 runs set by Mithali Raj during the 2017 tournament in England. Her consistency and attacking intent at the top of the order proved vital to India’s title-winning run.
Her impact was also evident in the final against South Africa, where she and Shafali Verma provided India with a blistering start. The opening pair stormed past a fifty-run partnership inside the first seven overs, putting the Proteas bowlers under immediate pressure. Although South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt still tops the overall chart with 470 runs this edition, Mandhana’s dominant presence remained one of the defining forces of the tournament.
