She was bullied, teacher ignored complaint: Parents of girl, 9, who jumped to death

  • November 8, 2025

The parents of nine-year-old Amayra, who died after jumping from the fourth floor of her Jaipur school, have accused the teacher and school administration of ignoring her repeated bullying complaints and alleged a cover-up.

Nine-year-old Amayra jumped from the fourth floor of Neerja Modi School on On November 1.

The parents of a nine-year-old girl who jumped to her death from the fourth floor of a private school in Jaipur have accused a teacher of ignoring their daughter’s repeated complaints about being bullied by her classmates, even on the day of the incident.

They alleged that the girl had approached the teacher at least four times, complaining about being bullied by some boys in her class, and that the parents themselves had raised the issue with the school on earlier occasions.

“She had complained to me several times about being bullied in class. Some boys used to disrespect her and tease her by linking her name with another boy. I had approached the teacher regarding this matter, but she was very insensitive,” the girl’s mother, Shivani, told India Today.

On November 1, nine-year-old Amayra jumped from the fourth floor of Neerja Modi School, a height of nearly 48 feet, in an incident her parents described as “beyond imagination” for a child who was “happy and bright.” She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The tragic event was captured on CCTV, which showed her climbing onto the railing before jumping.

According to the mother, the bullying had intensified last year and continued this year since the same set of students remained in her section. “I had complained once or twice last year too. I even told the principal, Indu ma’am, about what was happening to Amayra inside the classroom,” she added.

The parents recalled an earlier incident when a boy apologised to Amayra after the parents intervened following a bullying episode.

Her father, Vijay, confirmed that the bullying continued despite the teachers being aware of it. He also alleged that a teacher once blamed his daughter for being “reserved” with boys.

He recounted another incident in which he noticed a boy making gestures toward his daughter. “At one of the parent-teacher meetings, I saw a boy signalling to her. I spoke with her class teacher and asked why that boy was making signals. The teacher replied that Amayra should understand this is a co-ed school,” he said, adding that the family was dissatisfied with the police probe.

Her uncle, Sahil, said CCTV footage showed that on the day of the incident, Amayra was seen repeatedly approaching her teacher while some boys bullied her. “In the footage shown to us by the police, about an hour before the incident, Amayra got up from her seat four to five times, went to her class teacher, said something, and returned. It’s clear she was repeatedly complaining. Her classmate also confirmed that she was telling the teacher other kids were troubling her,” he said.

“The footage also shows students sitting in front of her turning back and teasing her,” the uncle added. “The teacher later admitted that Amayra came to her twice — once saying ‘students are using bad words’ and another time saying ‘they’re disturbing me in my studies.’ The teacher only told her, ‘Go sit down.’ That’s not how you address a child’s pain.”
