Revanth Reddy targets Gen Z, Alpha, Beta with new Telangana education policy

  • September 12, 2026

Revanth Reddy told the Assembly Telangana will bring a new education policy covering Gen Z, Gen Alpha and Gen Beta. He linked the overhaul and a higher education budget to the state’s long-term economic ambitions.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said his government was bringing in transformational changes in education and planned to involve not just Gen Z, but also Gen Alpha and Gen Beta through a new education policy.

He said this was aimed at helping the state reach its goals of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047 under the ‘Telangana Rising 2047’ vision.

In a marathon speech of more than two hours in the Assembly on Friday night, Reddy, who also holds the education portfolio, said the government wanted to raise the share of the state budget allocated to education to 15 per cent.

He said the previous BRS government had allocated Rs 18,955 crore, or 6.53 per cent, to education in 2023-24, while his administration had increased it to Rs 23,729 crore, or 7.78 per cent, in 2025-26. “My target is to increase it to 15 per cent,” he said.

Reddy said the government had set up an education commission to frame a new education policy and that it had submitted its report. He said a committee led by former MP K Keshav Rao would examine the report and asked all members to give their suggestions.

“There is a lot of talk about Gen Z. The debate stopped at Gen Z. I did not stop there. Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Gen Beta. I am thinking of all of them to ensure that we reach our goals of making the state a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and the Telangana Rising 2047 vision. My idea is to involve all of them through the education policy,” he said.

He said the government had introduced pre-primary classes in government schools and that 64,000 students enrolled in the first year. He also said mid-day meals were being provided to both students and teachers from nursery to Class 12, and that centralised kitchens had been developed to serve high-quality, hygienic breakfasts and meals.

Claiming that enrolment in government schools had risen by 86,000, he said, “It is a testament to my performance as education minister,” while responding to BJP floor leader A Maheshwar Reddy’s comment that the state did not have a full-time education minister.
