The University of Delhi (DU) has issued an advisory asking students and faculty members to stay away from Jantar Mantar and avoid taking part in unauthorised assemblies and demonstrations.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, the university urged students to prioritise their safety and follow the law. It also warned that unlawful gatherings at Jantar Mantar, which are regulated under Supreme Court directives, could lead to legal action.
“Dear students and faculty, your safety matters to us. Please note that any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi,” the university said.
It added that participating in such demonstrations could pose “serious risks to students’ personal safety” and also affect students’ “academic progress and professional opportunities”.
DU further urged students to “stay away from Jantar Mantar” and “prioritise their safety and compliance with the law”.
“Furthermore, you are advised to exercise caution as a significant amount of fake and misleading content is being created and circulated to fuel the situation,” it added.
CJP Protest Continues
The advisory comes amid the continuing protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
The CJP launched its sit-in protest on June 20, demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, reforms to the education system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest gathered momentum after thousands of people joined demonstrations demanding action over the leak of the NEET medical entrance examination paper.
