Smriti Mandhana’s ex-fiancé Palash Muchhal reportedly made casteist remarks against her childhood friend in Sangli.

Palash Muchhal is facing legal trouble after a complaint was filed against him in Sangli. According to a report by TV9 Marathi, a case has been registered against Palash Muchhal under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The complaint was filed by Vigyan Prakash Mane, a resident of Sangli and a childhood friend of Smriti Mandhana.
What the complaint alleges
The complaint states that the incident took place on November 22 at a toll plaza on the Sangli-Ashta road. Mane has alleged that during an argument, Palash Muchhal made derogatory remarks related to caste.
Police have registered a case under Section 3(1) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with Sections 351(2) and 352. The investigation is currently underway.
Dispute over money
As per the report, the issue is linked to a financial dispute. Police said that Palash Muchhal had taken Rs 25 lakh from Vigyan Mane for a film production project. Mane later approached him to seek the return of the money. The confrontation is said to have occurred when Mane raised the matter again, leading to an argument between the two.
Statement from the complainant
Vigyan Mane spoke to the media and shared his version of events. “He assured me that the film would be completed in six months. However, he turned out to be deceitful. When I asked for my money back, he evaded the issue. When I confronted him, he used derogatory language; I cannot even repeat it on camera. His attitude is quite troubling,” he said, as per Zoom.
Connection with Smriti Mandhana
The case has also brought attention to Palash Muchhal’s past relationship with Smriti Mandhana. The two were earlier engaged and were expected to marry in Sangli in November 2025. However, the wedding was called off, and the couple later announced their separation on social media. The reasons behind the split were not made public.
