Pakistan Summons US Diplomat, Objects To Ambassador Sergio Gor’s ‘J&K Important Part Of India’ Remarks

  • August 20, 2026

Pakistan summoned the US Charge d’Affaires to express disapproval of comments made by US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, regarding Jammu and Kashmir.

US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor

Pakistan on Wednesday summoned the US Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad and lodged a strong demarche over remarks by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor during his recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad condemned and rejected the characterisation of Jammu and Kashmir as “an important part of India”.

“The US Charge d’ Affaires in Islamabad was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today and a strong demarche was lodged over the factually incorrect remarks of the US Ambassador to India, regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir, during his visit to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Pakistan Objects To Gor’s J&K Remarks

The Pakistani side reiterated its position that the dispute should be resolved in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. “Pakistan strongly condemned and categorically rejected the characterisation of Jammu and Kashmir as a ‘part of India’. It was underscored that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory, awaiting final disposition in accordance with the relevant UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people,” the statement added.
Islamabad, in the statement, further claimed that Gor’s remarks were inconsistent with what it described as the United States’ “long-standing and well-documented position” on the Kashmir dispute. “It was highlighted that the irresponsible statement by the US Ambassador negated the long-standing and well-documented position of the United States on the Jammu & Kashmir dispute, and also ran contrary to the United States’ commitment to the supremacy of international law and the UN Charter,” the statement read.

Referring to US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate between India and Pakistan to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in the aftermath of Marka-e-Haq, Islamabad urged the US to ensure that its public statements remain consistent with what Pakistan described as the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

‘J&K Important Part Of India’: US Envoy Sergio Gor

US Ambassador Sergio Gor, who is on his first visit to Srinagar, on Wednesday termed Jammu and Kashmir as “an important part of India”. Gor’s big remark came after he met J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, marking the first trip by a US envoy to the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370 and after the Pahalgam attack.
