An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai diverted to Hyderabad after a mid-air fire scare, as a passenger alleged lapses in the crew’s emergency response. A passenger shares his terrifying experience during the incident.

A routine journey from Delhi to Chennai turned frightening for passengers aboard IndiGo flight 6E 6115 on October 11, 2026, when flames reportedly erupted from a bag near row 16, filling the cabin with smoke and triggering panic. A passenger named Gaurav Mishra, an IT professional seated in row 14, recounted how travellers rushed to douse the fire thousands of feet above the ground, raising concerns over the cabin crew’s emergency response. In an exclusive interview with Times Now Digital, Mishra narrated his harrowing ordeal during the incident.
“On October 11, 2026, my journey aboard IndiGo flight 6E 6115 from Delhi to Chennai turned into a terrifying experience when, at around 2:50 p.m., while I was seated in row 14, flames suddenly emerged from a bag in row 16. A few passengers, including myself, immediately stepped in to control the fire. We were thousands of feet up in the air, and panic spread throughout the cabin as smoke filled the aircraft, terrifying passengers, including children and elderly people. The flight was almost packed,” Mishra said.

The IT professional said that they all rushed to douse the flames coming from the cabin above row 16, but what was more troubling was the emergency response. The passenger alleged that the crew member who brought the extinguisher was unable to operate it, forcing a colleague to intervene.
“Passengers had already begun fighting the fire, as captured in the video, with their limited understanding of a mid-air fire situation, before cabin crew members arrived with a fire extinguisher. There was no problem with the extinguisher itself. However, the crew member who brought it was allegedly unable to operate it, and a colleague had to step in,” Mishra said.
The flight made an emergency landing in Hyderabad at approximately 3:20 p.m. for inspection. Passengers later boarded another flight and continued their journey to Chennai that evening.
