Bengaluru: The five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) have started levying a Rs 200 ‘software charge’ from property owners along with the annual property tax.

The charge for commercial buildings has been reportedly fixed at Rs 1,000, it is learnt.
The Opposition parties, both the BJP and the JD (S), have raised questions on the new levy, terming it a day light robbery. Officials, however, said the charge was necessary to meet the recurring expenditure involved in maintaining the digital infrastructure used for property tax which has made easy for people to pay without visiting the corporation offices.
