‘Not Kings Or Queens’: CJP’s Saurav Das Says ‘Fractured’ Vote Helped ABVP Win DUSU

  • September 20, 2026

Saurav Das, co-convener of the Cockroach Janta Party, commented on the DUSU election results on Saturday.

After DUSU results, CJP’s Saurav Das takes on Congress, Left over opposition disunity

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convener Saurav Das, in the wake of the DUSU results, said that a majority of students are “against the present regime,” but because that vote was “fractured,” it benefited. Calling this a silver lining, Das said that those who have won positions must remember they are not kings or queens, as the majority did not vote for them.

“I’m sorry, but two observations from the DUSU results: A majority of students are against the present regime—but fractured, and hence it benefits the regime. But this is a silver lining. Those bagging positions must remember they are not kings or queens. The majority DID NOT vote for them,” Saurav Das posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The ABVP won three of the four central panel posts in the high-profile Delhi University Students’ Union election, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, who was denied an NSUI ticket, won the vice-president’s post.

Attacking the Opposition, Das said, “Instead of focusing on hounding the CJP, it will do well for the Congress and its bureaucratic wings to get their game sorted. That sorting game has been going on for 12 years now and people are losing patience—just like the rebel NSUI candidate who has won with a HUGE margin for VP on being denied NSUI ticket.”

“Some in the Left unity—not all—are too focused on ideological purity and exclusivity. They should wake up and smell the coffee—no one is running to them for their validation. If this is the opposition “unity”, then I’m afraid they will continue to remain in Opposition,” he added.

ABVP candidate Yash Dabas bagged the post of president. In the presidential race, Dabas polled 24,576 votes, defeating NSUI’s Vijai Shankar Meena by a margin of 2,053 votes.

Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s post with 30,615 votes, emerging victorious after he was not given the NSUI ticket.

For the joint secretary’s post, ABVP’s candidate Lakshya Raj Singh secured 16,615 votes against 15,778 votes polled by the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha candidate.

In the secretary’s race, the ABVP candidate Riya Chhawdi polled 21,650 votes, while the NSUI candidate secured 14,869 votes.

Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) drew a blank, though its candidates lost the posts of president and joint secretary by narrow margins
