A wedding in Portugal’s Madeira took an unexpected turn when thousands of Cristiano Ronaldo fans reportedly gathered outside a cathedral, convinced the football superstar was getting married to his longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez.
The bizarre incident unfolded outside Funchal Cathedral, a historic 15th-century church, where Portuguese couple Fabio Ramos and Fatima Nicole Cunha Teixeira were due to get married.

The couple, who hail from Madeira but currently live in France, found themselves at the centre of a massive crowd after rumours spread that Ronaldo and Georgina were set to tie the knot at that very venue.
Around 2,000 fans reportedly turned up outside the cathedral, many wearing Portugal’s iconic No. 7 jersey associated with Ronaldo. The unexpected gathering created chaos as the couple’s friends and family struggled to make their way into the church for the ceremony.
Fatima was reportedly forced to push through the crowd to reach the venue, with the huge turnout threatening to overshadow what was supposed to be a private and special day for the couple.
One wedding guest described the surreal situation, saying, “This is crazy. Why does everyone think Fabio is Cristiano Ronaldo? The bride has been very upset, worrying that all the commotion will ruin her wedding day.”
The confusion appears to have been fuelled by speculation that Ronaldo and Georgina had chosen Madeira for their wedding. Fans reportedly believed the couple could have booked the cathedral under a different name, further adding to the confusion.
However, the priest at Funchal Cathedral, Marcos Goncalves, clarified that there was no secret Ronaldo wedding taking place. He confirmed that the ceremony scheduled for the day was the one involving Fabio and Fatima.
The footballer himself later reacted to a viral social media post about the mix-up, responding with laughing emojis. His reaction quickly added another layer to the already amusing episode and drew attention to the incident online.
