NEET PG 2026 re-exam for 2,445 candidates affected by Jaipur centre disruptions has been challenged in Supreme Court, with hearing directed before designated NEET bench.
The re-examination announced for 2,445 candidates affected by technical disruptions during the NEET PG 2026 exam has been challenged before the Supreme Court. The plea was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant on Wednesday, September 2, with the petitioner arguing that the proposed re-test was contrary to an earlier order of the top court.
According to PTI, an advocate sought an urgent hearing on the matter before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana.
The bench, however, directed the lawyer to approach the designated bench headed by Justice PS Narasimha, which is hearing matters related to NEET.
“All NEET matters are before the designated bench led by Justice Narasimha. Go and mention it before that bench. Several developments take place in these matters,” the bench said.
NEET PG Re-Exam For 2,445 Candidates
The legal challenge comes days after the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announced a re-examination for candidates who were unable to complete the NEET PG 2026 examination due to technical problems at two centres in Jaipur.
The NEET PG 2026 examination was conducted on August 30 across the country. According to official figures, 2,73,096 candidates were scheduled to appear at 1,111 centres spread across 339 cities and all 36 States and Union Territories.
A total of 2,65,980 candidates appeared for the examination, with 2,63,535 successfully completing the test. However, the examination could not be completed for 2,445 candidates at the iON Digital Zone Sitapura centres in Jaipur due to an internal power supply disruption.
NBEMS subsequently announced that the affected candidates would be given another opportunity to appear for the examination.
The re-examination is scheduled to be held on September 5, 2026, at 3 PM in Jaipur. The examination body said venue details and other instructions would be communicated separately to the concerned candidates.
Why Has The NEET PG Re-Exam Been Challenged?
The plea has questioned the decision to conduct a separate examination for the affected candidates, with the advocate arguing before the Supreme Court that the move violates an earlier direction of the court.
The latest hearing, however, has not resulted in any stay or cancellation of the proposed re-examination. The three-judge bench only directed the petitioner to approach the designated NEET bench headed by Justice PS Narasimha.
