Delhi rape-murder accused Rahul Meena allegedly committed two rapes and a murder within 12 hours, later telling the court, “Mujhse apradh ho gaya, galti ho gayi.”
A 19-year-old man accused of a brutal rape and murder in south Delhi allegedly carried out another sexual assault just hours earlier in Rajasthan, exposing a chilling sequence of crimes that police say took place within a single night. The accused, Rahul Meena, was arrested on Wednesday(April 22) in connection with the killing of a 22-year-old woman in Delhi’s Kailash Hills area. He was produced before the court on Thursday, and according to a report by PTI, he is showing little signs of contrition and has changed his statement repeatedly, officials privy to his interrogation said.
Though in court he said, “Mujhse apradh ho gaya… Galti ho gayi (I committed a crime, a mistake),” before a magistrate granted police custody for further interrogation, a report by PTI said.
2 Rapes And 1 Murder In 12 Hours
According to police, Meena raped a woman in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on Tuesday night before travelling to Delhi early the next morning. He allegedly knew the victim’s husband and had accompanied him to a wedding before returning alone and committing the assault. “A special team has been formed to probe the rape charge against Rahul Meena here. We have detained over half a dozen people for questioning,” Alwar SP Sudhir Chaudhary said, as per PTI.
Investigators said Meena then travelled to Delhi and entered the home of a former employer using a spare key. He had worked there for eight months before being dismissed. Knowing the family’s routine, he allegedly went straight to the rooftop study where the 22-year-old daughter was present.
30 minutes of Horror: Raped, Killed, Then Dragged
Meena said that the moment he reached upstairs, the victim confronted him about his presence. He began demanding money, which led to an argument. According to the accused, originally, he planned to only rob the house, but the rest “just happened” after she refused to open the safe.
Police said Meena attacked the woman, strangled her with a charging cable and struck her with a heavy object. “The investigation suggests that the accused raped the victim while she was still unconscious. He then dragged her down the stairs to another room where a locker was kept, and attempted to open the biometric lock using her fingerprint, but it did not open,” a police official said.
He later broke open the locker, stole valuables and fled. CCTV footage shows he was inside the house for around 30 minutes.
