THE Duchess of Sussex is still in talks to star in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen — despite claims she had been axed after a public backlash.
Netflix bosses are eager to feature Meghan’s screen comeback but no formal agreement has been reached.
A TV source said: “Her return to acting is expected to draw a large audience of both her supporters and critics, and is likely to make a lot of money. It will be seen as a major coup for whoever signs her.”
It is understood Hollywood deals often go up to the wire, and jobs are rarely ever set in stone until the last minute.
It comes after esteemed royal author Tina Brown claimed Meghan had been dropped from the project, writing: “The backlash was so intense it became untenable to go forward.”
Last week we told, left, that the Duchess was in talks to play a temptress in Netflix’s action-comedy series about an aristocratic family who turn to crime.
The main character is a duke who formerly served in the Army — just like Meghan’s husband Prince Harry.
The hugely-popular first series in 2024 was even advertised with the slogan “every heir needs a spare”, echoing Harry and brother William.
The show features Ritchie hallmarks such as underworld thugs, drugs, sex, murders and very strong language.
Meghan, who we revealed last week is returning to the UK imminently with Harry and their two children, also has a strong relationship with Netflix.
