Laid-off techie offered ₹25K WFH role by the same company to manage entire workload: ‘Tech market is tough’

  • April 3, 2026

In a Reddit post, the techie said the employer called a meeting and marked March 31 as the last working day.

Ongoing layoffs continue to unsettle tech workers, with a young employee in Mohali facing a sudden job loss followed by an uncertain work arrangement.

In a Reddit post, the techie claimed that on 31 March, their employer called a meeting with the entire team and said the company could no longer support its staff due to almost no projects.

“Lost job today, now asked to handle everything alone for 25K WFH,” the caption of the post reads.

According to the post, the team, which had around 20 members, was told to consider the day as their last working day.

During the meeting, the employer also opened up about the lack of projects and financial strain on the company.

“He told us to consider this our last working day and mentioned he won’t be able to pay full salary because there hasn’t been much work this month.” the techie wrote.

The announcement came without warning, leaving employees shocked and unprepared.

Solo role offer after layoff:

After the meeting, the techie was called separately and offered an alternative. The techie was asked to continue working from home for ₹25,000 per month, slightly higher than their previous salary of ₹23,000.

However, the revised role came with significantly increased responsibilities. The techie was told to handle both full-stack and mobile development work alone if any projects came in.

“I would have to handle full-stack plus mobile projects on my own if any come in,” the techie wrote.

The techie raised concerns, stating that such a workload would be difficult to manage for the offered pay.

In response, the employer suggested accepting the amount for now, citing no active projects at present, and added that the salary would increase significantly once new development work came in.

“I accepted for now ( new offer letter not provided yet ) because the tech market is quite tough for someone with 8 months of experience as a full-stack developer,” the techie wrote.
