Home Minister Amit Shah at Times Now Summit 2026 reassured that there will be no LPG or fuel shortage, dismissed lockdown rumours, and urged people to trust in Modi government. He also highlighted India’s resilience in managing the global oil crisis.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday assured the country that there will be no shortage of LPG cylinders or fuel supply, and urged people to have faith in the Modi government during this global crisis. In an exclusive interview with Times Network Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar at the Times Now Summit 2026, the Home Minister also made it clear that there will be no lockdown in the country, putting to rest all rumours.
He reiterated that there is no plan to impose restrictions similar to those seen during the pandemic. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that there will be no lockdown,” he said.
No Fuel Shortage, Government Absorbing Crisis Impact
Shah underlined that India has managed to maintain stable fuel supplies and prices even as global oil markets remain volatile due to geopolitical tensions.

“India is the only country where with zero increase in petrol and diesel prices, we are ensuring uninterrupted supply,” he added.
Responding to criticism over the government’s handling of the crisis, he said the Centre has taken on the financial burden to shield citizens.
“I believe there is no other country in the world that has taken the entire burden of the crisis upon itself,” the Home Minister said.
He added that the government’s ability to cut excise duties on petrol and diesel stems from the strength of the Indian economy.
“Today, the Indian Government is able to take a cut on its excise duty due to a resilient economy,” he explained.
Swipe at Rahul Gandhi
The Home Minister also took a direct swipe at Rahul Gandhi, urging people not to be swayed by Opposition statements amid the crisis.
“Whatever Rahul Gandhi says, please don’t believe it…” he quipped.
Global Oil Shock, Domestic Measures
Amit Shah’s remarks come at a time when global crude oil prices have surged amid escalating tensions in West Asia, raising concerns over fuel supply and inflation worldwide.
To cushion the impact, the government recently cut excise duties on petrol and diesel and imposed export levies to ensure adequate domestic availability, while keeping retail prices unchanged. The excise duty on petrol was slashed to Rs 3 from Rs 13 and brought down to zero for diesel.
