Karan Wahi calls women today “too independent,” says they lack patience compared to his mother’s generation, sparking major backlash online.
Actor Karan Wahi is facing massive backlash on Reddit after a clip from his podcast with Chhavi Mittal went viral. A section of social media users called his comments on modern dating and women’s independence “regressive” and “misogynistic.”
Karan Wahi Talks About Dating And Women’s Independence
During the conversation, Karan spoke about how, according to him, women from his mother’s generation dealt with problems differently. He said his mother would stay quiet if something upset her and handle it in her own way. Comparing that to the present day, he said, “In today’s time, a woman says, ‘f**k you’ and just moves on.”
Karan then shared an incident from his own life. He said that while he once chose not to date multiple people at the same time because he did not want to get confused, he later found out that the woman he was dating was also going out with seven other people.
“I was like, theek hai, matlab I’m not judging you, but phir kaise, where will, how will you stop (sic)?” he said.
Later in the conversation, Karan Wahi clarified that he was not saying such behaviour was right or wrong. He added that he felt people today had become less patient. He also said men are often raised with the expectation that they must work and earn money.
Why Reddit Users Objected To His Comments
The clip was widely shared on Reddit, where several users disagreed with Karan’s views.
Many felt that although he said he was “not judging,” his comments about the woman dating seven people came across as judgmental. Others said they were uncomfortable with his suggestion that women today lack patience or are too quick to walk away from relationships.
One user commented, “So according to him, women should always continue with the role of being the “patient”, calm, caretaker role? This is so problematic to hear first of all. You are okay with going on a date with 2 women in a row but as soon as you hear she might do the same, you take it on your ego and start slut shaming?” Another wrote, “So he expects women to be patient and quiet because men can’t? Dude can’t take what for generations women have been getting from men and now they aren’t putting up with it. Why would a woman make space for your incompetency and inadequacy (sic)?”
