Kaps Cafe Firing: Bishnoi Gang ‘Open Threat’ Under Lens As Cops Plan To Question Kapil Sharma

  • August 9, 2025

A fresh round of gunfire at Kapil Sharma’s Kaps Cafe in Canada and an “open threat” from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have prompted Mumbai Crime Branch to consider questioning the comedian again.

A fresh round of gunfire at Kapil Sharma’s Kaps Cafe in Canada and an “open threat” from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have prompted Mumbai Crime Branch to consider questioning the comedian again and reviewing his security.

The Mumbai Crime Branch is set to speak to comedian Kapil Sharma again following the latest firing incident at his Kaps Cafe in Surrey, Canada, and an “open threat” allegedly issued by a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Highly placed sources said the meeting could take place today or tomorrow, with the option of contacting Sharma over the phone for privacy and security reasons.

Officials are also weighing whether to extend security cover for the actor-comedian. While no formal request for protection has come from Sharma and he has not reported receiving any direct threat calls, police are examining whether he might have received threats but chose not to report them out of fear.

The move follows a second attack on Kap’s Cafe on Thursday, when around 25 rounds were fired at the establishment, shattering windows but injuring no one. Bishnoi gang member Goldy Dhillon, wanted by Punjab Police and the NIA in multiple extortion and murder cases, claimed responsibility for the shooting on social media. Dhillon is believed to be hiding in Germany.

The latest assault comes less than a month after the first incident on July 10, which was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, a fugitive associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). That attack was allegedly linked to derogatory remarks Sharma was accused of making about Nihang Sikhs.

Canadian investigators are now looking into possible links between the two incidents. CCTV and dashcam footage from vehicles passing through the busy market where the cafe is located are being analysed. Authorities are also examining social media posts connected to both attacks, with Canadian officials suspecting that an international illegal arms dealer may have supplied the weapons used.

An audio message allegedly connected to the Bishnoi gang has added a fresh twist to the probe. In the clip, a gangster warns that anyone in the film industry showing support or closeness to Salman Khan will be targeted, even hinting at plans for “major attacks” in Mumbai. The threat reportedly stems from Sharma inviting Salman to the launch of The Great Indian Kapil Show. Salman appeared in the first episode of season 3, which aired on June 21.
Security officials in India, however, remain cautious. They have not verified the authenticity of the audio and note that Salman’s appearance on the show took place well before the latest shooting.
