How India Fooled Pakistan Using Dummy Fighter Jet To Deceive Air Defence Systems During Op Sindoor

  • May 18, 2025

Indian armed forces not only thrashed Pakistan with missiles but also with smart deception when Operation Sindoor was at its peak, according to report.

In a move showing strategic superiority and brilliance in a battle situation, the Indian Armed Forces did not just give Pakistan a bloody nose with missiles during Operation Sindoor but also with planning, at the heart of which was a well-thought-out deception.

On May 7, India launched Op Sindoor against terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The Indian military called the strikes “non-escalatory” in nature and warned Pakistan against any misadventure during a press briefing that day. However, Pakistan resorted to provocation by sending drones and missiles, targeted at the Indian civilian population and military installations.

India retaliated against the unprovoked escalation by the Pakistani military with drone and missile strikes into Pakistan, destroying targets and turning them to rubble.

How Indian Forces Fooled Pakistan

Putting on display operational excellence against provocative Pakistani escalation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) used dummy aircraft as bait, disguising as fighter jets to disable Chinese-supplied air defence systems in Pakistan, news agency ANI reported, citing top defence sources.

On the intervening night of May 9 and 10, the Indian armed forces targeted 11 Pakistani airbases after Pakistan launched its ballistic missiles at India. Ahead of India’s response to the provocation, the Indian Air Force first sent in unmanned aircraft that were made to look like real fighter jets.

The deceptive move prompted the Pakistani radars to prepare themselves to destroy what they thought were Indian fighter jets. They activated their HQ-9 missile systems to take them down, which, unknowingly for the enemy, gave away their positions and exposed them to Indian counterattacks.

The Pakistani air force had moved all its HQ-9 air defence missile launchers and radars to different locations, some of which were deployed at new locations. However, once they were activated, they could easily be detected, ANI reported.

Upon successful deception and detection of the Pakistani air defence systems, the IAF pounded Pakistani air bases with long-range missiles, such as BrahMos and SCALP missiles. India fired nearly 15 BrahMos and SCALP, Rampage and Crystal Maze missiles.

Pakistan was pushed on the back foot, struggling to stand tall before the Indian armed forces.

Pakistan Compelled To Cry ‘Ceasefire’ After India’s Powerful Strikes
The Indian strikes damaged airstrips, hangars, and communication systems across Pakistan’s air force network. Reports say they also hit an airborne early warning aircraft and several long-range drones in Sindh.

This was the first ever known use of BrahMos missiles in a combat, defence sources said.
