Fatah-3 Missile Test On Cards? Buzz Grows As Pakistan Issues 750-Km NOTAM

  • August 20, 2026

Pakistan has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting a large stretch of airspace over August 19-20, triggering speculation that the country could be preparing for a test involving its Fatah-series missile systems.

The NOTAM covers an area extending roughly 750 km, an unusually extensive airspace restriction that has drawn attention among defence observers. While the notification itself does not specify the nature of any planned activity, its timing and range have fuelled speculation of a possible long-range missile or multiple-launch rocket system test.

The Fatah family has emerged as a key component of Pakistan’s effort to build an indigenous conventional precision-strike capability. The systems are associated with the Pakistan Army Rocket Force Command (ARFC), which has been established to strengthen the military’s ability to conduct long-range conventional strikes.

Pakistan currently operates the Fatah-1 and Fatah-2 systems, while the Fatah-4 has also been reported as part of the country’s evolving rocket force. The Fatah-3 and Fatah-5 have been announced but have not been publicly unveiled, leaving considerable uncertainty over their specifications, operational status and deployment.

The Fatah-1 is understood to be a shorter-range guided rocket system, while subsequent variants have progressively expanded Pakistan’s strike range and precision. The development of the series reflects Islamabad’s broader push towards systems capable of delivering conventional effects at greater distances without relying exclusively on aircraft.

The latest NOTAM has therefore led to particular interest in whether an upcoming activity could involve the Fatah-3 or another advanced variant.

The speculation of a missile test also comes against the backdrop of US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor’s recent remarks on Jammu and Kashmir. During his visit to Srinagar, Gor described Jammu and Kashmir as an “important part of India”, a position that prompted a sharp reaction from Pakistan.

“It’s a pleasure to be here… This is an important part of India. I am here, visiting for the first time. It is an incredibly beautiful place. I am thrilled to be here, thrilled to see this place,” Gor said as he met J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday.
