A terrorist was killed after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists after the ultras opened fire on the security personnel during a cordon and search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday night, officials said. The operation was launched in the Arhama area following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.
The gunbattle is underway as the armed forces are retaliating to the gunshots fired at them, with two to three terrorists trapped.
According to officials, a joint team of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, acting on specific intelligence about the terrorists’ presence, initiated the search operation in the general area.
During the operation, security personnel noticed suspicious movement. When the suspects were challenged, they opened fire, prompting retaliation from the forces.
“Based on specific intelligence input, joint search operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice in Gen area Arahama of Ganderbal. During the search, vigilant troops observed suspicious activity. On being challenged, terrorists opened fire and own troops retaliated. Operation is in progress,” the Army said.
Gunshots were heard in the area as the brief exchange of fire took place. Sources indicated that contact had been established with two to three terrorists during the initial phase of the operation.
