Red EcoSport car owned by Delhi blast suspect was found parked in Haryana after cops launched massive hunt this afternoon. The car with DL10CK0458 plate was registered in the name of Umar Un Nabi at Rajouri Garden RTO on 22 November 2017.
The Red Ford EcoSport owned by Delhi blast suspect Dr Umar Un Nabi was found parked near Haryana’s Khandawali village hours after cops launched a massive hunt for the vehicle on Wednesday, officials said. The car was found parked outside a Khandawali house which belongs to Dr Umar, they added.
After the seizure, the car was cordoned off and a team of experts was called to investigate the vehicle. It is suspected that the vehicle may be carrying weapons or explosives.
The red Ford EcoSport bears the registration number DL10CK0458 and is registered to Umar Un Nabi, also known as Dr Umar Mohammad, who was listed as the second owner of the vehicle.
The car was registered at the Rajouri Garden RTO in Delhi on November 22, 2017. Investigations have revealed that Umar used a fake address in Northeast Delhi to purchase the vehicle, prompting police to raid that location late at night, sources told India Today.
Authorities believe that the suspects used the EcoSport as a secondary vehicle in the operation, following the explosion of a white Hyundai i20, which was found destroyed near the blast site.
Intelligence agencies had warned that the red EcoSport could be carrying crucial evidence or even explosives. According to the sources, investigating agencies suspect that Dr Umar and his team used a red EcoSport car to transport and stockpile ammonium nitrate over time.
In response, all law enforcement units were instructed to intercept any red Ford EcoSport, with particular attention to the one bearing DL10CK0458.
Police on patrol and picket duty were also ordered to remain fully armed and vigilant, ready to act immediately upon spotting the vehicle.
The Delhi Police, in coordination with central security agencies, scanned CCTV footage, toll booth records, and mobile tower data to trace the car’s movements.
Umar is described as the most radicalised member of the module and the key link between all the doctors. Following the arrests of a Nowgam cleric and Muzamil, Dr Umar reportedly switched off his phones and severed all digital communications.
The module had conducted multiple reconnaissance operations and, according to sources, was planning a series of serial blasts, awaiting final instructions from its handler when the network was dismantled.
Dr Umar is believed to be the man driving the white Hyundai i20 that exploded near the 17th century monument. Investigative agencies have already collected DNA samples from the members of his family, which are being compared with evidence from the blast site to confirm the driver’s identity.
