Asim Munir’s Direct Message: Why Pakistan Is Sending Mohsin Naqvi To Tehran

  • September 19, 2026

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is set to travel to Tehran to hold urgent talks with the Iranian leadership, CNN-News18 has learnt. Armed with a vital, direct communication from Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, Naqvi’s high-level mission focuses on de-escalating the dangerous security crisis in West Asia and restoring stability along critical sea routes.

At the heart of the emergency dialogue is Islamabad’s push for Iran to exert its diplomatic influence over the Houthi movement in Yemen. Recent escalations and stepped-up Houthi attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea have raised sharp concerns across Gulf nations. Pakistan, maintaining close economic and defense ties with Riyadh, is seeking Tehran’s active intervention to halt further aggression and avert a wider regional conflict.

The high-level push comes in the wake of fresh contacts between Islamabad, Beijing, and Tehran, following Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s recent engagements in China. By opening a direct diplomatic channel with Tehran through Naqvi’s visit, Pakistan is attempting to position itself as a key mediator, leveraging its balanced relationship with both Iran and Gulf monarchies to secure a fragile regional truce.
