Bird flu has been confirmed in Naugachia subdivision of Bhagalpur district after over 150 crows were found dead. Authorities have launched sanitisation and surveillance drives to contain the outbreak and prevent spread to poultry farms.

Bird flu has been confirmed in Naugachia subdivision of Bihar’s Bhagalpur district after more than 150 crows were found dead, prompting an emergency response from the district administration.
Panic spread across the area when residents on a morning walk on January 11 spotted a large number of dead crows lying under a tree within the sub-divisional complex.
Several other birds were also seen in a distressed condition. The sudden deaths raised fears of a possible avian influenza outbreak among locals.
Following the incident, teams from the Forest Department reached the site and removed the dead birds safely. A joint team from the Forest and Animal Husbandry departments then collected samples for laboratory testing. The serum samples were sent to high-level laboratories in Patna and Bhopal for confirmation.
District Animal Husbandry Officer Anjali Kumari officially confirmed that the test reports from both labs detected the bird flu virus.
After the Bhopal report verified the infection, the district administration moved into full alert mode. A sanitisation drive has now been launched in a 10-kilometre radius around the affected zone.
Officials are also collecting samples from poultry farms in the surrounding area to prevent any possible spread to domestic birds. Surveillance and monitoring have been intensified across the subdivision.
The administration has stated that the situation remains under control but precautionary measures are being taken seriously.
