A woman died under suspicious circumstances on Tuesday following a tooth extraction procedure at a private clinic in Jharkhand’s Palamu district. The owner of the clinic absconded following the patient’s death.
According to police officials, the deceased, identified as Vijayanti Devi, was a resident of Kasimpur in Bihar’s Aurangabad district. Her health deteriorated after she had a tooth extracted at a private clinic in Hariharganj town. She was rushed to the Community Health Center, but doctors could not save her.
Following the woman’s death, the clinic’s proprietor, Dr Ashraf Ali, absconded. Hariharganj Police continues to search for Dr Ali.
After the deceased’s family members filed a written complaint, accusing the doctor of gross negligence, local authorities sealed the private clinic.
Police officials are investigating the matter and are likely to file a First Information Report soon.
While the reason behind the woman’s death remains unclear, deaths by medical negligence are not unheard of across India.
