Woman constable suffers head injury, seeks leave, dies days later; 2 cops suspended

  • August 31, 2026

A UP woman constable suffered a head injury in a scooter accident on August 22 and sought leave for further treatment. Her husband alleged that two constables failed to forward her leave application, preventing her from taking leave to seek medical treatment. She later died, prompting an inquiry.

Two Uttar Pradesh Police personnel have been suspended in connection with the death of a 28-year-old woman constable who was posted at Lalganj police station, an officer said on Sunday. The action came as police began an inquiry into allegations linked to her request for leave after she suffered a head injury in a scooter accident.

The constable, Kesari Verma, had suffered the injury on August 22 and wanted leave for further treatment. Her husband, fellow constable Nagendra Verma, alleged that she handed her leave application to constables Abbas Ali and Deepak Mishra, but they did not forward it to a senior officer, which meant she could not go on leave for further medical care.

Nagendra Verma alleged that because the leave application was not forwarded, his wife was unable to take leave for treatment and later died. Police said the allegation is being investigated by the Circle Officer of Harraiya.

According to Kesari’s brother, Amarjeet Verma, the 2018-batch constable was on her way to join duty from her home in Pratapgarh district when the scooter she was travelling on with him lost balance. She suffered a serious injury to the back of her head and was taken to a hospital, where she received stitches and underwent a CT scan.
