Akshay Kumar’s Welcome To The Jungle has taken a decent start at the box office. It should aim for a good growth over the weekend and end it on a healthy note.

Welcome To The Jungle has taken a decent start at the box office. As per estimates, the comedy drama debuted with slightly under Rs. 19 crore nett on its opening day, including paid previews. Of this, around Rs. 15 crore came on Friday, while the movie minted Rs. 3.75 crore in its Thursday previews. Actuals will be shared in the morning.
That’s a better opening than Akshay Kumar’s previous release, Bhooth Bangla, which turned out to be a Clean Hit venture. The Ahmad Khan directorial should aim to grow over the weekend and post a healthy total. The word-of-mouth seems mixed so far, which is why its fate will depend on how it performs on weekdays and while facing the new releases: Alpha, Dhamaal 4, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Ideally, the film should open much bigger, somewhere around Rs. 40 crore or more, given the strong IP value. However, the film hasn’t made use of it. The treatment seems to be more of a spoof/parody rather than a broader, appealing family entertainer, which the first two films in the franchise were.
Still, if the film can sustain at this opening, it can sail through. Bhooth Bangla managed to do that, but their competition was a lot lax compared to Welcome To The Jungle. Let’s see how the movie performs in the coming days.
