Trump Says Renewed Iran Attacks Won’t Last ‘Too Long’, But US Can Strike ‘Any Time We Want’

US President Donald Trump said the renewed US military campaign against Iran would not last “too long”, but warned that Washington was ready to launch another attack whenever it chose.

Trump made the remarks on Wednesday after the US carried out heavy strikes on targets across Iran, killing at least 18 people, according to Iranian officials. The latest attacks marked the biggest exchange of fire between the two sides since July.

“We blew up much more than their radar last night. It was a very heavy attack last night, and we’re prepared to do another one any time we want,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office.

Despite the renewed attacks, Trump gave no clear timeline for the campaign. Asked how long the US offensive would continue, he replied: “I don’t think too long.”

Trump Says Iran Weapons Programme Was Hit

Trump said US forces had destroyed new military equipment Iran was trying to build along the Strait of Hormuz.

He claimed Iran was working to restore its radar and missile systems, as well as developing a rocket capable of dropping mines. Trump said the US had destroyed the equipment before it could be used.

“We took out all of the new equipment that they tried to build along the Strait of Hormuz – some defensive, some offensive,” he said.

Trump said the US strikes came after Iran targeted an American base in Jordan.

“We hit them last night because they took a shot at our base in Jordan,” he said. “We hit them hard last night. They gave a little love-tap, but we hit them hard.”

Iran Retaliates Against US Bases

The fresh fighting came after weeks of relative calm. US forces launched strikes near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, saying they were responding to Iranian efforts to lay mines in the key waterway.
