Single At 60, Lagaan Actor Suhasini Mulay Found Love On Facebook, Married Scientist Atul Gurtu Within 75 Days
Veteran actress Suhasini Mulay, known for her memorable performances in films such as Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar, has revealed how she found love at the age of 60 and married within just 75 days of meeting her future husband. The actress remained single for decades because she could not find a partner who shared her belief in equality and mutual respect. A chance interaction on Facebook eventually changed her life.
Speaking about her journey, Suhasini said that she got married for the first time at the age of 60. Until then, she had not found the right life partner. Her husband, physicist Atul Gurtu, is a renowned scientist. While she admitted that she often struggles to understand the scientific subjects he discusses, she described him as a wonderful human being.
The actress recalled that she joined Facebook only after a co-star suggested that the platform could help her connect with people and explore work opportunities. While browsing one day, she came across Atul’s profile and was intrigued to see a physicist actively using social media. Curious about his work on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), she sent him a message asking, “What is LHC?” That simple question sparked a conversation that would eventually transform both their lives.
As their conversations continued through emails, Atul hinted that he was looking for a life partner. Suhasini initially found the idea amusing. She recalled thinking, “When I couldn’t find the right person in 60 years, how could I suddenly find one now?” Unsure about taking the relationship further, she sought advice from a close friend. The friend encouraged her not to shut the door before giving the possibility a chance and suggested that she could always walk away if things did not work out.
Even after deciding to move forward, Suhasini remained cautious. When Atul asked for her phone number, she jokingly replied, “Good girls don’t give their phone numbers to strangers.” Concerned about fake online profiles, she verified his identity by matching his Facebook details with information about the organisation where he worked. Encouraged by another childhood friend who reminded her that she had spent her entire life fearlessly on her own, she finally decided to trust the process.
