While the other 871 junior doctors got postings as per the counselling process, three doctors – Aniket Mahata, Asfakulla Naiya, and Debashis Halder – were not given postings as they chose.

Three senior doctors, who have been the prominent faces of medics’ protest against the West Bengal government after the RG Kar Rape-Murder case, have been allegedly given ‘punishment’ postings, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led government being accused of witch-hunting, reported The Times of India.
As per rules, all post-graduate medical students, after finishing their course, must work for three years in government hospitals. Their job postings are decided based on a counselling process, and the hospitals are picked as per available positions. Like this year, the PG results were published on February 28, and the counselling process was completed on April 8. After the counselling, the candidates were made to sign an undertaking that the option they chose is final and will not ask for a change in future.
While the other 871 junior doctors got postings as per the counselling process, three doctors – Aniket Mahata, Asfakulla Naiya, and Debashis Halder – were not given postings as they chose, the report said.
Mahata picked RG Kar but was sent to Raiganj. Naiya chose Arambag but got Purulia instead. Haldar opted for Howrah District Hospital, but was posted at Gajol sub-divisional hospital, the report said.
“According to my ranking and the vacancy list, I opted for RG Kar during counselling. However, as per the final list, I have been posted to Raiganj Medical College, TOI quoted Mahata as saying. “This is vendetta,” he said.
Asfakulla Naiya said, “The reason is our participation in RG Kar protests. The move is also destroying the sanctity of the counselling process, introduced two years ago to make it transparent.”
The medics were part of the long-drawn struggle in Kolkata seeking justice for the postgraduate trainee doctor who was brutally raped and murderes at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata last year.
