Rapper Emiway Bantai, whose real name is Mohammad Bilal Shaikh, received a death threat coupled with a ₹1 crore extortion demand following the release of his tribute track to the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. The threatening message was sent on May 25 to the official mobile number of Bantai Records, a day after the song’s release. The message read: “I am gangster Goldy Brar. Tera singer pasa 24 hours hai. Ek karod rupya chahie. Nahin to khatm kar dunga. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi group, gangster Lon group, gangster Rohit Godara.”
Goldy Brar, who claimed responsibility for the threat, is known as an associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and is allegedly linked to the 2022 murder of Sidhu Moosewala. The threatening message was promptly reported to the NRI Coastal Police Station in Navi Mumbai by the manager of Bantai Records. Emiway Bantai, a prominent figure in India’s hip-hop scene, operates his studio in Seawoods, Navi Mumbai.
Law enforcement agencies have initiated an investigation to trace the origin of the message. A police officer from the NRI Coastal Police Station stated, “We are investigating the case and are trying to trace the number from which the message was sent.” Additionally, the Crime Branch has commenced a parallel investigation into the matter.
