Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has invited ALPA India for talks on aviation safety and the AI 171 crash probe in Delhi. The meeting comes as families of victims pursue a US lawsuit against Boeing and Honeywell.
The Directorate General of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has formally invited the Airlines Pilots’ Association of India (ALPA) to join a discussion on aviation safety and the ongoing AI 171 crash probe.
The meeting will take place at the AAIB headquarters in Delhi at 4 PM tomorrow. According to officials, the AAIB-ALPA India meet is likely to deliberate upon the role of Subject-Matter Experts (SMEs) in accident investigations.
ALPA expressed hope that the discussion would yield constructive results. “ALPA hoping the meeting will have positive outcomes specifically in regards to participation into the AI 171 crash probe,” the association said.
At least 270 people were killed and dozens injured after a London-bound Air India flight carrying 242 people crashed moments after taking off from Ahmedabad in the world’s worst aviation disaster in a decade. Flight AI171 came down on a government hospital hostel on the outskirts of the airport, leaving a field of debris and scenes of devastation.
Recently, the families of four victims who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad in June, have launched a legal battle in the US’s Delaware Superior Court against aircraft manufacturer Boeing and aircraft parts maker Honeywell. This lawsuit, seeks justice for the lives lost in one of India’s deadliest air disasters, even as it raises questions about the circumstances of the crash as investigations continue to determine its cause.
