Police sources say the accused allegedly murdered his parents and sister who was pregnant out of wedlock

A triple murder reported from Karnataka’s Vijayanagara district has taken a dramatic turn, with police now investigating the case with the angle that this could be a case of alleged honour killing planned to the last detail and the missing complaint was made only to mislead investigators.
Police sources say the accused, Akshay Kumar, is alleged to have murdered his father Bhimaraj, mother Jayalakshmi, and his 18-year-old sister Amrutha at their rented house in Kotturu town, where the family had been living for the past few years. The murders are believed to have taken place on January 27.
According to Thilaknagar police, Akshay was enraged after discovering that his sister was pregnant and that the pregnancy was out of wedlock. Investigators said the accused opposed the relationship as the man Amrutha was in love with belonged to a different caste.
Investigators said the family, including the parents, had refused to force Amrutha to abort the child, a decision that allegedly angered Akshay further, as he felt his objections carried no weight within the family and claimed his sister had “disgraced the family.”
Police claim that driven by rage and believing the situation had brought “dishonour” to the family, Akshay allegedly planned and executed the murders. The bodies were later buried inside the house to conceal the crime.
After committing the murders, Akshay allegedly travelled to Bengaluru on January 29 and attempted to divert suspicion by filing a missing persons complaint at the Tilak Nagar police station, claiming his parents and sister were untraceable.
Investigators said the accused went to great lengths to mislead the police, drawing inspiration from the Malayalam film Drishyam. He allegedly took photographs outside Jayadeva Hospital to create a false trail suggesting he had been in the city searching for his family. Police said he also collected bus tickets, switched mobile numbers, and shared misleading location details to confuse investigators.
During the probe, police initially focused on tracing Amrutha, given information that she was pregnant. Teams searched several hospitals in Bengaluru to check whether she had been admitted or harmed.
