Police seize 53 kgs of banned poppy husk, suspects flee leaving contraband behind

  • July 3, 2026

Hisar Police seized 53.24 kg of poppy husk from a car after a tip-off. The recovery underlines Haryana’s intensified crackdown on drug trafficking as three suspects remain absconding.

Haryana police set up a check point after the anti-narcotics cell received an intelligence tip-off about the suspects’ movement.

Haryana Police have seized 53.24 kg of poppy husk and confiscated a car allegedly used to transport the contraband in Hisar district, officials said. The action was taken by the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Hisar Police as part of the state’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking.

Police said three young men were allegedly carrying the poppy husk in a white car, but fled into nearby fields after spotting the police team. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and raids are underway to arrest the suspects.

Superintendent of Police Siddhant Jain said the Anti-Narcotics Cell was on patrol near the Raipur railway bridge on National Highway-9A when it received a tip-off about the movement of a large quantity of poppy husk in a white car. Acting on the information, police set up a checkpoint near Raipur Chowk.

During the checking, police found the car parked on the roadside. Its three occupants abandoned the vehicle and ran into the nearby fields on seeing the police team, Jain said. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of three plastic sacks containing 53.24 kg of poppy husk. The contraband and the car were seized.

Preliminary investigation found that the vehicle was registered in Rajasthan’s Karauli district. Police said the case has been registered at Urban Estate police station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and efforts are on to trace and arrest the absconding accused.

Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said the Haryana government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
