Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th Brics Summit. He landed at Galeo International Airport, marking the beginning of a two-leg visit to the country. The visit came at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva.
This is Prime Minister Modi’s fourth visit to Brazil. Apart from participating in the Brics Summit in Rio de Janeiro, he will also undertake a visit to the capital, Brasilia.
PM Modi wrote on X, “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I will participate in the Brics Summit and then head to its capital, Brasilia, for a State visit at the invitation of President Lula. Looking forward to a productive round of meetings and interactions during this visit.”
PM Modi received a grand welcome from the Indian community upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro for the Brics Summit. Members of the community greeted him with cultural performances, including a special dance themed on Operation Sindoor, India’s anti-terror mission targeting Pakistan-based terrorists.
The performance struck an emotional chord, with PM Modi appreciating the gesture and interacting warmly with the attendees. The event highlighted the strong patriotic sentiment among the Indian community abroad and set the tone for the Prime Minister’s engagements at the multilateral summit.
On the sidelines of the Brics Summit, the Prime Minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with various global leaders.
The Brics grouping, which initially included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, gradually expanded to include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran, making it one of the most influential alliances of emerging economies worldwide.
