The West Coast of the United States is home to some of the most breathtaking beaches in the world. From California’s dramatic cliffs to Oregon and Washington’s peaceful shores, there’s a beach for every vibe. With nearly 8,000 miles of shoreline, it would take years to get to every beach. That’s why we’ve created a list of the best West Coast beaches that travel experts across seven websites recommend adding to your bucket list. So, grab your sunscreen and towel, and discover what could become your new favorite spot. Is there a beach you love that’s not on the list? Let us know!

The List: Top 6 Must-Visit Beaches on the Left Coast

1. Cannon Beach, Oregon

You won’t be able to put your camera down when visiting Cannon Beach along the Oregon coast. The breathtaking sunsets rival those in far-off lands, with the towering Haystack Rock providing an incredible backdrop. Nestled in the charming town of Cannon Beach, this coastal gem is a favorite spot for day-trippers from Portland, says Roam The Northwest.

You’ll also encounter plenty of wildlife at the beach, from tide pools to unique marine life. Nearby, Ecola State Park offers hiking trails and lookouts – perfect for selfies. Sixt recommends a stroll through Cannon Beach’s downtown area, filled with unique boutiques and galleries. It’s a full-day adventure!

Swimming might not be the main attraction at Cannon Beach, but that doesn’t bother visitors reports Your Tango. There’s plenty to do, from exploring vibrant nature trails to walking to Haystack Rock at low tide. The beach promises fun times for everyone, even if you don’t take a dip!

2. La Jolla Beach, California

According to USA Today, this popular San Diego beach is a dream come true with its miles of turquoise water and gentle waves, making it the perfect place to learn to surf. The swimming and snorkeling are unbeatable with plenty of colorful fish and marine life.

The beach is an ideal destination for families looking to enjoy the sand, surf, and explore the nearby State Marine Reserve. Roam the Northwest recommends bringing a bike to tour the Coast Walk Trail or visit other nearby beaches.

If you enjoy kayaking or snorkeling, Your Tango says that this beach offers some of the most secluded caves to explore. Just a short walk from La Jolla Cove is the Children’s Pool, an ideal spot for families with small children.

3. Rialto Beach, Washington

The highlight of this stunning Olympic Coast beach is the aptly named Hole-in-the-Wall, located about a mile north of the parking lot. Accessible only at low tide, this natural rock formation is perfect for exploring and taking photos. It frames the sea stacks that line this stretch of beach beautifully, according to Roam the Northwest.

The water can be chilly in the summer, around 59 degrees, but Cheapism says the stunning scenery more than makes up for it. You’ll find massive sea stacks just offshore, piles of driftwood scattered along the beach and the famous Hole-in-the-Wall sea cave arch. The wildlife here is a real treat too—otters, whales, and seals are regulars!

This beach is one of the rare spots where you can bring your pets, but Yard Barker says you must keep them leashed and don’t let them go past Ellen Creek. It’s a popular place for beach camping too, though sadly, your four-legged friends have to sit that one out.

4. Ruby Beach, Washington

This is one of Washington State’s best-kept secrets according to Yard Barker. Adjacent to Olympic National Park, this spot is more “beachy” than Rialto. If it weren’t for the cooler weather, you might think you were in California. This spot is a must-add to any vacation itinerary.

Ruby Beach is conveniently located off Highway 101 and is perfect for day-trippers. With its towering sea stacks and cobbled stones, Roam the Northwest guarantees you’ll spend hours beachcombing and soaking in the wild beauty. Its remote charm and stunning landscapes keep people coming back for more.

During low tide, visitors can explore rocky areas and discover marine life in the tide pools, while photographers capture the scenic sea stacks and driftwood. For a more active experience, the nearby Olympic National Park offers coastal trails with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. As Sixt highlights, the 1.5-mile hike to the Hoh River is breathtaking, featuring sea stacks, driftwood, and the chance to spot eagles and other wildlife.
