AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday hit back at Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s provocative “blood will flow” remark. Dismissing the statements made by Bhutto after the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, Owaisi reminded the leader about the devastating impact that homegrown Pakistani terrorists had on his own family.
“Arre chhodo… bachpane ki baatein nahi karna (Leave it, don’t say childish things). He does not know what happened to his grandfather. His mother (Benazir Bhutto) was killed by their homegrown terrorists. Does he even know what he is saying?” Owaisi was quoted as saying by News18.
Benazir Bhutto, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was assassinated in Rawalpindi during an election rally in December 2007. Rogue elements of the Pakistani Taliban were said to have had a hand in her death, and the government and military were accused of a cover-up.
What did Bhutto say?
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made a provocative remark, days after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty over cross-border links to the Pahalgam terror attack. Bhutto said, “I want to tell India that Indus is ours and the Indus will remain ours – either water will flow in this Indus or their blood.”
Earlier, Owaisi had torn into Pakistan for its remarks in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack. “You are not just half an hour behind, you are half a century behind India. Your country’s budget is not even equal to our military budget,” he said, while addressing a public meeting at Prabhani in Maharashtra on Sunday.
India on Wednesday downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan and announced a series of measures, including expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 and immediate shutting down of the Attari land-transit post. The suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty has been described as an “act of war” by Pakistan.
